History

For more than 30 years, medical professionals have relied on Clear Image® Ultrasound Scanning Gel to help enhance their patient’s diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Originally manufactured in 1991 by Sonotech, the Clear Image Gel product line now includes both a high viscosity and a medium viscosity gel.

In early 2000, as customers expressed concerns about infection prevention in the clinical setting, a new packaging option was developed for Clear Image Gel. Clear Image Singles® Gel, introduced in 2004, was the first unit dose flexible package for gel in the industry. By providing an easy-to-use, single patient packet, Clear Image Singles Gel addressed sonographers’ concerns about cross-contamination and provided an alternative to traditional, reusable squeeze bottles.

LithoClear® Scanning Gel, a 2002 addition to the gel line, specifically addressed the needs of the users of dry contact ESWL (Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy).

Since acquiring the Sonotech medical products gel business in July of 2012 from Magnaflux (a division of Illinois Tool Works), NEXT Medical Products Company continues to manufacture Clear Image, Clear Image Singles and LithoClear Gels. In February of 2014, NEXT Medical became nationally certified as a minority, women-owned small business. Also in 2014, ultrasound gel manufacturing operations were relocated from Bellingham, Washington, to Branchburg, New Jersey. This move combined our manufacturing and sales activities into one location but retained a warehouse on the west coast so our products could be shipped to customers from two locations.

In October of 2014, the assets of the former BLOXR Corporation were sold to BLOXR Solutions, LLC, a new business entity established as a wholly owned division of NEXT Medical Products. This acquisition expanded our company’s product line with innovative, patented x-ray attenuation products for the imaging and radiological markets.

In July of 2015, NEXT Medical began distributing SONO Disinfectant Wipes.

In January 2016, NEXT Medical acquired the O.R. Comfort line of adjustable patient positioning devices. Since 1998, this line has provided an efficient means of comfortably positioning patients during surgical procedures without having to move or to lift them manually.

In February of 2017, NEXT Medical Products became the exclusive distributor in North and South America of the PROACT line of reusable and disposable laryngoscopes.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, NEXT Medical began manufacturing an isopropyl alcohol-based hand sanitizer in January of 2021.
